The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

As any major honors show nears, you'll find a clamor for introducing additional classifications to recognize unsung work and delight the passions of fans dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator previously argued for a horror game category. It would be amazing. The same goes for strategy board titles, representing someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case for why my demand is the most urgent above others. The demand is this: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and typically start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise for the industry of gaming, which are so diverse they hardly constitute as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies currently feature genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications successfully include numerous genres, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: building puzzles of one title, intense tile-matching in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. What category would fit them between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens outstanding logic titles released every year without proper recognition at major award shows, except when they manage to fit award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition in any category during that awards season
  • A different innovative game missed out that year
  • Popular arranging title got ignored in 2021
  • Just some logic titles scraped into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most popular titles in the world maintaining this status for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges popular creative games for the title of best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. You could fill multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these are games that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Logic title developers are working at the challenging frontier of video game design, creating some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Just like film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait decades.
