Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary style architect who crafted many legendary styles worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, including the soft-colored suits that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

His passing follows just weeks after he debuted his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "dress" made famous by Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to study at the renowned Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he started his work in menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show was launched by outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to blend menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in designing form-fitting garments established him as a "true original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he started creating outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as a number of outfits for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London last month in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The fashion world says farewell to a authentic original whose influence on the visual landscape of music remains indelibly etched.
