🔗 Share this article Jets Head Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Incident Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning. Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during their recent conversation. “That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His family, they are holding up and he will walk away from this just fine.” It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the hospital, where he has been listed as critical but stable. “Don’t know just yet,” Glenn remarked. “However, I can share, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that’s what gives me comfort, that he feels like that and his words reflect that optimism.” Authorities shared video stills Monday of a man sought in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack is still being looked into and authorities said it is unknown if Boyd was targeted. No one else was hurt as confirmed by officials. The attack took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday in the area between the famous arena and Times Square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was admitted to a medical center after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away. Glenn said Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since he heard about the shooting. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a newborn. “The first thing I thought about, he recently became a father,” Glenn said. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind. “There is a procedure involved, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.” Boyd was inactive this season, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on mid-August with a shoulder issue that required surgery. Boyd came to New York as a free agent in spring and was anticipated to become a key part of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during preseason drills on early August and was taken away on a cart. Boyd continued to be present during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery. “He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn said. “In fact, he attends every game. His commitment is total. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.” Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of UT in the 2019 draft. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract valued at $1.6 million with New York in March.
