Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Police say they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been placed in the form of a swastika, they added.
Police then found numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police report early analysis suggest the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; investigators are not yet informed of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they added.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for information.
An important representative commented the vandalism made him without words and required to be resolved promptly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at residents of migrant background in February 2020.
